Snowmelt
Snowmelt
Hydronic Radiant Heat is Ideal for melting snow and ice on driveways and sidewalks. A snowmelt system can be be stand alone or used with an existing boiler. Operating costs are quite reasonable because only a small temperature rise above freezing is enough to melt snow, ice and even dry the surface. Also Insulation below the heating loops directs the heat where it is needed. Automatic sensors know when to turn the system on only when required. A Heat exchanger combined with glycol will keep the system working at the right temperature without freezing.
Conventional Snow removal by using shovel, snowblower or heavy equipment is expensive, time consuming and often not completely effective , salt is harmful to the environment and minimally effective. If you have woken up to 2 feet of snow on your uphill driveway you could spend hours shoveling and still have a slippery surface remaining.
